The three of us,
Bernardo from Italy, Burkhard from Germany and Bartosz Bat from Poland,
have been travelling all along the German-Polish border for two weeks,
crossing the border for about 25 times.
The topic: “Change of the German-Polish border after the maximum of
the last glaciation”.
This means we went on a trip to this particular border region with our
focus set on the geographical, historical, social and mental association.
We have talked to different people; such as the mayor of Bogatynia,
the leaders of the social project Turmvilla (Bad-Muskau), artists from
Frankfurt/Oder and Schloß Bröllin, the Director of Collegium Polonicum
in Slubice, to mention examples. They offered different definition,
experience, context and memory.
For one the border is the end of their needs, for the others the border
means weakness of other possibilities;
to some the border is language, culture;
to some the border is history and policy;
to some the border is imagination and illusion;
to some the border does not exist.
All the time we took visual coverage of landscapes as well as the atmosphere
and people with video-, digital- and reflex cameras.
We wrote texts, every day, all of us. Every one handled the languages
in different ways. In some reports we tried to transform thoughts into
lyrics, in others news and impressions were summarised . After the daily
text was written, everyone put in a few pictures of the day- together
with the text it formed the new web page.
The project is not finished. Exhibition and presentation of the obtained
has been planned and partially fixed. Other appointments for interviews
have been planned.
